Principal investigator of the Key Discipline Program for Human Geography of Northeast Normal University, vice chairman of the Human Geography Committee of Geographical Society of China, member of the Urbanization Expert Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC, editorial board member of Chinese Geographical Science and Human Geography. His research interest is to study the evolution of urban and regional system of Northeast China, urban spatial expansion and urban safety, urban and regional structure from the perspective of Space of Flows, etc. He directed 4 projects supported by National Nature Science Foundation of China, released over 100 academic papers and published 3 academic books.
